1. WHAT IS CONDUS?

Condus is the co-operative organisation of the Faculty of Educational Sciences, but includes also the student organisations of the subjects that left the faculty in the beginning of this year. Every student is a member of Condus through the student organisation of their major subject. (Exchange students do not need to join a student organisation to take part in Condus events or committees).

During the academic year Condus organises many big events, such as Freshman Party, Condus Amazing Race, Sitsit and the Anniversary Celebration. Find out more in the Upcoming events!

Condus also actively follows and reacts to the current issues in our university. One of our main duties is to take care of our students’ rights and promote their interests. Our goal is to make sure that the students’ opinions are heard in the decision making in the faculties as well as in the University at large.

Taking part in the Condus activities is easy since it is open to everyone. To find out more, visit our website and sign up for your own organisation’s mailing list. You can find Condus also on Facebook and Instagram. Welcome!

5. THE MATTERS OF EDUCATION

The faculty council

The newly elected members of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Educational Sciences’ (Faculty of Behavioral Sciences) are Tommi Mäki and Viivi Piira. Lovisa Hirvonen and Rekar Abdulhamed were elected as deputy members.

Two new positions for deputy member have become available. You can apply for the position until the 6th of February, 12 am. Send your application to the board of HYY (www.halloped.fi). More information from the website or from Aaro Häkkinen (the specialist of educational policy), aaro.hakkinen[a]hyy.fi, 050 543 8460.

Faculty’s new two-unit structure

The Faculty of Behavioral Sciences became departmentless 1.1.2017, when the department of behavioral science and the department of teacher education were closed down, and the faculty’s name changed to Faculty of Educational Science. Because of the new structure the faculty now has two units. In the new model the first unit, “Cultus”, is in charge of teaching, schooling and education, and the other, “Exercitium”, of teacher training schools. The names for the units aren’t final.

Changes in the Swedish education

In the fall of 2017 there will be only one bachelor’s programme for the whole faculty. Three of its nine study tracks will be in Swedish: Class Teacher Education, Kindergarten Teacher Education and General and Adult Education.

The number of available positions for Swedish kindergarten teachers will increase due to the end of co-operation between University of Helsinki and Åbo Akademi.

Join the Education Committee!

The Education Committee consists of student representatives and students with an interest towards educational matters. Both the committee meetings and the Facebook group are open to all students in our faculty.
The committee gathers every month with a different theme each time.
